The Chalk Stream

A rare Chalk Stream has been identified at the site by a local conservation group, and the South Downs National Park were made aware of this during the regulation 18 consultation. The Chalk Stream is not recognised within the regulation 19 consultation which contravenes the core policies of the park regarding a landscape-led approach to planning and means their evidence base is not incomplete.

Naturally occurring measures of flood management are preferred and on this site the opportunity to provide this via the Chalk Steam with related biodiversity gain have been overlooked by South Downs National Park.

The Chalk Stream has two routes across the site, one of which has been omitted from the plan, which borders the entire side of the proposed housing location in the middle field. Any water course requires a boundary; this has not been included and will drastically reduce the available land for building rendering the proposed middle field site unsound.
